The Napkin Project, 2015 - ongoing
graphite on paper, 14" x 17" each

This series of drawings developed after noticing how my hands unconsciously molded a napkin during a meal. Questioning an act that the body performs, I realized that this was a documentation of what we express physically through our practical and inattentive hand gestures. Each work was drawn from a napkin after a shared meal. While the drawings are a personal and meditative way to document our time together, I am interested in calling attention to that which goes unnoticed and unsaid during everyday activities. I see each work as a portrait of the napkin’s owner, through a detailed drawing of a tactile, disposable and forgotten object.
